A new performance by Andrea
Božić in collaboration with the night sky
Especially for the exhibition i will not be just a tourist in the world of
images just watching images passing by which i cannot live in make love to
possess as permanent sources of joy and ecstasy at Project: ARTspace in New York, we have prepared a special
fall spectacle in collaboration with three meteor showers titled Fireworks.
The performance series takes place every night during the entire exhibition
with special events for the opening and the finissage.
Moving across
the sky deep in the night, three meteor showers – the Orionids, Leonids and
Geminids will perform ongoing silent fireworks of falling stars. They will be
visible against the backdrop of the dark night sky as they flare up and burn
guided in their motion by the Sun and the planets. The performance series
starts with the Orionids featuring a firework of dust grains left behind by
comet Halley with a peak on 22 October for the opening of the exhibition. It continues with the Leonids in
November featuring a spectacle of melting dust grains left behind by comet
Tempel-Tuttle. It culminates with the Geminids – the king of all meteor showers
- featuring a show of up to 120 falling stars an hour produced by an asteroid
for the closing of the exhibition on the 13th of December.
Take a moment to find
a dark spot away from city lights. Sit
or lie down under the stars for 20 minutes to let your eyes adjust to the
darkness.
Enjoy the final dance of the ice balls left over
from the formation of stars and planets billions of years ago, as they flare up
and evaporate attracted by the pull of the Sun when they touch the Earth’s
atmosphere.
Fireworks is a durational spectacle visible to the naked
eye, a choreography for three meteor swarms, the Earth, the Moon, the Sun and
an observer. It is a ritual of endings and returns.
It is the fifth performance in the series of our collaborations with the night sky titled
Night Sky: Further Investigations Into Choreography, part of a larger
series of collaborations with the weather titled Telling Future.

Fireworks intensity: Orionids 10-20 an hour at peak
21-22 October; Leonids 15 an hour at peak 17-18 November; Geminids 120 an hour
at peak 13-14 December
Best viewing conditions: Outdoors, in the dark,
in clear skies.
Dress code: warm clothes
Tip: Pack
comfortable chairs, food and drinks, blankets, plus a red-filtered flashlight
for reading maps and charts without ruining your night vision.
